Internet - Broadband simulator - Model assumptions

    Internet – Model assumptions

    This page describes the various assumptions that are used by the broadband simulator. Assumptions are required for a precise calculation to be made. Assumptions must also be prepared in case either the user does not know the information in question or where entering all the data required would make the simulator less user-friendly.

    Results: These are filtered in line with the choices made concerning the type of broadband product desired:

    §  Fixed broadband ® fixed broadband + combined plans (fixed/mobile)
    §  Mobile broadband ® mobile broadband only
    §  Combined broadband (fixed/mobile) ® only combined plans

    Slider: If a combined internet plan (fixed/mobile) is selected, a double slider must be shown since the types of usage can differ (e.g. a user may use fixed broadband intensively but mobile broadband only occasionally).

    Volume: As this, along with download speed, is one of the two key parameters required for internet access products, a default value must appear automatically on the basis of the position of the slider(s). For a query for a combined plan, two distinct volume values must be requested, with an appropriate default value for each depending on the slider position.

    Number of days per month: Some plans for broadband access using a mobile data card have a charge for each day that the consumer connects to the internet. This assumption is used to calculate the average monthly cost of this type of plan. The question on the number of days per month appears only if the product requested is of type mobile broadband or combined broadband (fixed/mobile).

    Speed: The questions on desired download/upload speed appear only for fixed internet products and for combined plans (for the fixed internet component) since, in the current Belgian market, mobile internet products are not distinguished by speed.

    Belgacom fixed telephone line: The question on whether a Belgacom fixed line can be used to access the broadband product appears only for queries including a fixed Internet connection;

    Slider settings: The following table includes specific values corresponding to current market conditions.

    Results: Combined plans may appear in the results for two different queries:

    §  A query for a fixed connection only
    §  A query for a combined solution.

    For a combined solution given in response to a search for fixed connections only, the parameters relating to the mobile service (days per month and minimum volume requirement) for this combined plan will be considered as zero.
